CELEBRATING THE PERTH MINT'S FIRST SOVEREIGN

The Perth Mint opened on 20 June 1899 to manufacture sovereigns from Western Australian gold, establishing an immediate reputation for the quality and accuracy of its coins. To mark the 125th anniversary of the first sovereign off the press, our suite of commemorative 2024 Australia Sovereigns features a beautifully re-imagined portrayal of the historic piece’s famous St George and the Dragon design.

RE-IMAGINED ST GEORGE DESIGN

The Australia Sovereign and its Half and Quarter Sovereign companions portray a naked warrior on horseback brandishing a sword above a dragon. The modern reverse also includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIA’, ‘2024’, and a ‘P125’ mintmark.

H.M. KING CHARLES III EFFIGY

The obverse of each coin portrays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the coin’s monetary denomination.

PRESENTATION PACKAGING

Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the set is housed in a black presentation case featuring a foiled representation of the coin design on the lid, and an intricately illustrated shipper.

ABOUT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint's 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970. Under an agreement with the Commonwealth Treasury, they were empowered to mint and market gold, silver, and platinum as Australian legal tender to investors and collectors worldwide. Today, they are amongst the elite world mints whose pure gold, silver, and platinum items are trusted without question.
