Traditionally, motifs on a coin have raised relief. However, where the design is described as incused, it is pressed into the surface of the blank. This popular design trend makes its appearance on the prestigious Australian Kookaburra 5 oz silver coin in 2025.

Renowned for its iconic laughing call, the kookaburra is heard across Australia – from the outback to the back yard. And while it may be adept at snatching food from your barbeque or picnic table, the kookaburra enjoys a varied menu in the wild – insects, earthworms, frogs, fish, mice, or even venomous snakes!
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the iconic Australian Kookaburra, the coin’s reverse portrays an incused impression of a majestic kookaburra perched on a tree branch. A privy mark pays tribute to the original Australian Kookaburra coin design, with radiant lines symbolising a sun burst. The reverse also includes the inscription ‘KOOKABURRA 35th ANNIVERSARY’, the coin’s weight, purity and 2025 year-date, along with The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
This release is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid. Packaged within a beautifully illustrated shipper, the coin is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint's 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970. Under an agreement with the Commonwealth Treasury, they were empowered to mint and market gold, silver, and platinum as Australian legal tender to investors and collectors worldwide. Today, they are amongst the elite world mints whose pure gold, silver, and platinum items are trusted without question. Items such as the Australian Nugget, Silver Coin Series (Kangaroo, Kookaburra, Koala, and Platypus to name a few), as well as the Australian Lunar Gold and Silver Coin Series are extensively sought after by bullion investors worldwide.
