The Platypus is the fourth design in the Australian Map Shaped Coin Series.

The platypus is a semi-aquatic mammal found in Eastern Australia.

It has a beaver tail, a duck bill and otter-like feet.

It's unusual appearance caused much debate among scientists.

Most insisted it was a fake.

This coin is uniquely shaped like the map of Australia.

The obverse features the Queen Elizabeth II effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley and the words "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2013 1 DOLLAR".

The reverse depicts the struck design of a platypus against a coloured rain forest background highlighting a waterfall and a river.

The inscription "Platypus" appears above the platypus as well as the words "1 oz 999 Silver" with the year 2013 below it.
