Since it's creation in 1878 by legendary engraver George T. Morgan, the Morgan silver dollar enjoys a sustained reputation as one of the most easily recognizable bullion coins in the world. This is due, in part, to the coin's beautifully detailed design and rich history.
George T. Morgan revolutionized his design by using an American model, Anna Willess Williams, rather than the typical Greek-inspired rendition of Lady Liberty. The newly imagined Lady Liberty featured Anna Willess Williams as the model, as she donned a Phrygian cap. He said that her profile was the most perfect he had ever seen.
